Creative Writing, BFA (New York)

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Creative Writing program provides students the opportunity to pursue the study and practice of poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction in a comprehensive fashion. Building on the foundations of English and world literature, students explore the critical traditions that shape literary history and study how to analyze the written criticism of contemporary writers in order to discuss their most favored methods. Students in the creative writing program investigate their own writing in a self-reflective manner while focusing on the importance of redrafting. Through these processes, students evaluate the poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction of their classmates and articulate that appraisal through the workshop model. This program emphasizes both the art and craft of writing, encouraging students to refine their creative voice while building a solid foundation in the theory, history, and criticism of literature.

This program is designed to support both emerging and experienced writers by providing a supportive and dynamic creative community, where students can collaborate, receive mentorship, and prepare for a variety of writing careers in today’s evolving literary landscape.

This program is currently only available to former Marymount Manhattan College students who are eligible for continued enrollment at Northeastern University. This program includes required courses that will be taught on ground at the Northeastern New York City campus.

Complete all courses listed below unless otherwise indicated. Also complete any corequisite labs, recitations, clinicals, or tools courses where specified and complete any additional courses needed beyond specific college and major requirements to satisfy graduation credit requirements.
